A festival focus on homegrown talent wouldn’t be complete without being able to celebrate the past, present and future of Donegal’s musical elite. And in the context of the festival’s 21st birthday what better way to commemorate one of Donegal’s legendary groups than to resurrect the phoenix from the ashes. Quarterdeck were formed in 1980 by Billy Robinson, Lawrence Doherty, Sean Mc Carron and Paul Miller and at one time and another featured Jimmy Simmons, Mick Mc Cartney and the vocal talents of Dave Harvey and Lorraine Walls. The new line-up 2 decades later will see Maeve Dunphy now fronting the group for these 2 very special concerts. Heralded as one of the country’s finest jazz-funk bands, the group created a loyal and broad fan base at home whilst making their mark abroad amongst the post punk movements of the early eighties. Time to dust off the chinos and the patent leather shoes…
“Shakatak had better look to their laurels. Quarterdeck, the top jazz funk band in Ireland are coming” BBC Radio 1 DJ David Jensen, July 21 1984
